Hello, Day by Anita Lobel - review

Hello, Day by Anita Lobel
The cow says "Moo." The dog says "Woof." What they meant was "Hello, day!"
Later on, the owl said "Whoo-oo." What she meant was, "Good night."

Jeez, Louise, what else do you need? For storytime, for little kids, for bedtime - knocks Goodnight Moon out of the park. The illustrations, done in markers, pencil, colored pencil, watercolors and gouache, are colorful and rhythmic and textured and dimensional. They're like Van Gogh meets Warhol, but beautiful.

Endpaper bonus: gorgeous, dense bands of brilliant flowers. I want a skirt made of that pattern.

Based on your review, I got this book at the library for my then 15 month old. I had to buy it. We have now read it EVERY SINGLE DAY ON HER REQUEST since and she is now 18 1/2 months old. I got it for a friend and her 17 month old son and she has had the same experience. A winner! I recommend it to patrons and anyone else who will listen.

I am so happy to hear it! Thank you for coming back and telling me - you have really made my day!

You, by the way, must be REALLY GOOD at animal sounds - my hat's off to you!
