Scoot! by Cathryn Falwell - review
Scoot! by Cathryn Falwell
There's a lot to look at in this terrific book about animal locomotion in and around a woodland pond. Cathryn Falwell's cut- and torn-paper collages, augmented with direct printing (nice ferns!) and a few swipes of what looks like chalk, make readers want to inspect each page closely.
Maybe that's why those turtles on a log in the middle of the pond are keeping so still - they're watching all the action, thinking to themselves how paper collage not only expresses the texture of each animal, but goes a long way toward defining form and volume.
Nice use of onomatopoeia too.
